UNIPOWER Corporation Announces Acquisition
of Power Micro Incorporated
CORAL SPRINGS, FL (May 4, 1999). UNIPOWER Corporation
today announced that it completed its acquisition of Massachusetts based
Power Micro Inc. The transaction included the purchase of assets for
undisclosed terms. Joe Merino, President of UNIPOWER, commented, "We
are pleased with this acquisition since it accomplishes several objectives
for our company. It provides us with a technical development and support
center close to our customers in the Northeast, and it adds to our product
offering and capabilities a line of 'high density' DC/DC converters
as well as expanding our existing broad base of front end power systems."
It is envisioned that while manufacturing will
be performed at UNIPOWER's automated, ISO9001 facility in Florida, a
Customer Support Center and Advanced Development Center will be the
focus of the Westford, Massachusetts team.
Over the next few weeks product announcements
will be made about the rationalized DC/DC converter line to be made
available under the UNIPOWER label. These products are 75 to 150-Watt
converters in the industry-standard half and full brick configurations.
The line will include both triple output and single output models.
Ed Rodriguez, president of Power Micro, will
assume the role of Director, Northeast Technology Center and will focus
his team on the expansion of the existing DC/DC converter offering as
well as other state-of-the-art, modular switcher architectures. "The
alliance with UNIPOWER represents a formidable opportunity to bring
our products and exciting ideas to the market." said Rodriguez. "I am
positive this move will be a great one for both our teams as well as
our current and future customers."
The products will be marketed through UNIPOWER's
sales channels in North America and Europe. Data sheets and product
information will follow over the next several weeks.
"The capabilities of this design team are a valuable
addition to our existing technical team, as they come with great knowledge
in the areas of high density converters and high density packaging as
well as microelectronics. The two teams greatly complement each other,"
says Merino.
UNIPOWER Corporation designs, manufactures and
markets power solutions for telecom, datacom, networks, computers industrial
